Job description
Life Science Scientist
➡️ Have deep life sciences expertise and often find yourself thinking existing tools are “almost right” — but don't quite understand how scientists actually work?
➡️ Excited by how AI Agents could transform research, clinical development, BD and competitive intelligence in pharma and biotech?
➡️ Want to help build the AI-native products you wish you'd had as a researcher or life sciences professional?
If this sounds like you, we'd love to hear from you!
Role Summary:
We are building the next generation of AI Native products for life sciences, moving Patsnap beyond a traditional SaaS platform into an intelligent product ecosystem powered by MCPs, Skills, and Agents. Our goal is to embed Patsnap directly into our customers’ daily workflows and help them complete complex research, clinical, BD, competitive intelligence, and regulatory tasks more effectively.
We are looking for a domain knowledge scientist who sits at the intersection of deep life sciences expertise and product building. This is not a traditional PM role. Your job is to translate complex, messy, real-world life sciences problems into focused, usable products that customers want to open every day.
If you have a PhD background in life sciences, bioinformatics, computational biology, or equivalent industry experience, and you have often felt that existing tools are “almost good enough, but not quite right,” this is an opportunity to build the tools you always wished existed.
This role is an in-office role based in our Singapore office.
Who are we?
PatSnap is a global, Series E, unicorn SaaS platform that transforms the way organizations harness their Intellectual Property and Research & Development productivity. Our user-friendly platform revolutionizes how IP and R&D teams collaborate across the entire innovation lifecycle — using industry-leading, domain-specific AI to generate and validate ideas and bring innovative products to market faster, better, and cheaper. More than 12,000 R&D and IP teams worldwide use and trust PatSnap to innovate and commercialize new products.
As the leading global Life Sciences intelligence platform, PatSnap helps pharmaceutical, biotech, medical device, and life sciences organisations make better innovation decisions. By connecting patents, scientific literature, clinical trials, regulatory data, and market intelligence, we enable our customers to identify white spaces, reduce R&D risk, and accelerate breakthrough innovation.
We have a vibrant and diverse team with offices in Toronto, London, Shanghai, and Singapore. Our hyper-growth trajectory is powered by our people, and we are extremely proud of our company-wide vision, work ethic, and entrepreneurial spirit. We are committed to fostering an inclusive environment where talent thrives and ideas bloom.
What You'll Be Doing:
As a Life Science Scientist, you'll bring scientific expertise and product judgement together to identify, design and launch AI-native capabilities for life sciences professionals.
You'll work across the product lifecycle — from understanding a scientist's real-world problem to helping shape a working solution, putting it in front of users and learning from what happens next.
You will:
Identify high-value life sciences workflows across areas such as clinical development, translational medicine, business development, competitive intelligence and regulatory affairs where AI can meaningfully improve how work gets done.
Get close to our users, spending meaningful time with researchers, scientists, BD teams, clinical operations professionals and other life sciences customers to understand their daily work.
Go beyond feature requests, uncovering what users are actually trying to accomplish and the scientific, data and workflow challenges standing in their way.
Find the “last 200 metres” of the problem — the point where existing databases, search tools and software stop, and users resort to manual research, spreadsheets, multiple tools or their own scientific judgement to finish the task.
Turn PatSnap's life sciences data into AI-native products, combining assets such as clinical trials, sequences, targets, deals and patents with MCPs, Skills and Agents to solve specific workflow problems.
Prototype and launch quickly, getting early capabilities into users' hands in research-preview mode within weeks rather than waiting for everything to be perfect.
Learn from real-world usage, using customer feedback and observed behavior to continuously improve what we build.
Design for different scientific and commercial users, recognizing that the same underlying data can mean very different things to a researcher, clinical operations professional, scientific analyst or BD leader.
Make strong prioritization decisions, helping determine what we should build, what we shouldn't build and where PatSnap has a unique opportunity to create value.
Act as a domain authority for our life sciences products, helping product and engineering teams understand the scientific and industry context behind the problems they're solving.
Help define what “good” looks like, bringing scientific rigor and product judgement to prototypes and challenging solutions that are technically impressive but don't solve the user's real problem.
Partner with marketing and go-to-market teams, helping ensure our positioning and content communicate the genuine value of our products rather than simply describing their features.
Help build product taste across the organization, raising the team's understanding of what great AI-native life sciences products should feel like.
Job requirements
What We'd Love From You
We're looking for someone who:
Has a PhD in life sciences, bioinformatics, computational biology or a related field, or equivalent deep industry experience.
Has strong knowledge of pharma, biotech, clinical development, translational medicine, BD, competitive intelligence or another relevant life sciences area.
Understands how scientists and life sciences professionals actually work — including the messy, manual parts that aren't captured in formal processes.
Is genuinely curious about how AI and Agents will reshape life sciences workflows.
Has strong product intuition and can quickly judge whether an early prototype is likely to solve a real user problem.
Can translate complex scientific problems into focused, practical product opportunities.
Has delivered something end to end, such as a research paper, scientific tool, internal product, data pipeline or workflow solution.
Is comfortable working with uncertainty, experimenting quickly and building at the edge of current AI capabilities.
Can communicate complex scientific concepts clearly across technical, product and commercial teams.
Even Better If You Have:
Hands-on experience with LLMs, AI Agents, MCP or prompt engineering.
Experience working with structured biomedical data such as clinical trials, sequences, target/disease ontologies, deals or patents.
Experience building products or tools for researchers, data scientists, scientific analysts or other technical users.
Open-source contributions, technical writing, public projects or another portfolio of work that demonstrates your ability to build.
What Makes This Role Different:
You won't simply write requirements or manage a roadmap. You'll help define what the next generation of AI-native life sciences products should actually feel like.
You'll combine scientific expertise, customer understanding and product judgement to build tools that aren't just impressive demonstrations of AI, but genuinely useful parts of how scientists, analysts and decision-makers work every day.

All done!
