AI Product Engineer – IP/ Life Sciences
- Hybrid
- Farringdon, Greater London, United Kingdom

Job description
AI Product Engineer – IP/Life Sciences
➡️ Built your career in IP or Life Sciences and increasingly excited by what’s possible with AI?
➡️ Want to move beyond a traditional analyst, implementation or solutions role and help shape how AI is actually used across IP, R&D and Life Sciences?
➡️ Enjoy taking complex customer problems, getting hands-on, and turning them into a solution that actually works?
If this sounds like your next move, we’d love to hear from you.
Role Summary:
We have an exciting role for a AI Product Engineer (IP + Life Sciences) to sit beside our enterprise customers and turn AI-native capability into real outcomes across IP, R&D, and life sciences workflows.
This is a rare hybrid role. You sit at the intersection of a technical domain — patents or life sciences — and applied AI. You can speak the customer’s language to an IP or R&D professional, and speak “prompt” and “workflow” to a builder, without losing anything in translation. You are the bridge between how the customer actually works and the AI that’s about to change it.
This is a domain-expert delivery role, not a pure software job — and not a legal one. You do not need to be a software engineer or a qualified attorney. You do need real subject-matter grounding in IP and/or life sciences, a product instinct, and as much hands-on AI experience as you can bring.
The kind of background we have in mind - there’s no single path, but the strongest candidates often started as a patent analyst or searcher, a life-sciences or pharma data analyst, or in an implementation / solution-delivery role — somewhere you’ve had to learn a domain deeply, wrangle messy data, and work directly with customers. If you've since started building with AI and want to make that a much bigger part of your career, you're exactly who we want to talk to.
We’re deliberately looking for someone earlier in their career who is curious, technical enough to build, comfortable working directly with customers, and eager to own outcomes end to end.

This is a hybrid position in our London, UK office, working 1–2 days in the office and the rest from home.

Why Join PatSnap?
Build with AI, not just talk about it. You’ll get hands-on with AI Agents, Skills, workflows and automation, using them to solve genuine customer problems. You own the last mile — the point where AI capability becomes a result the customer can act on. If you know a domain, love building with AI, and want to deliver outcomes rather than hand over software, this is the seat.
See your work make an impact quickly. Build prototypes in days, put them in front of customers, learn from the feedback and iterate.
Work with some of the world's leading innovators. You’ll solve problems for enterprise IP, R&D and Life Sciences teams using PatSnap every day.
Help shape the product. You’ll bring customer insight directly into Product and Engineering, helping turn individual use cases into capabilities we can scale.
Develop a unique combination of skills. Build your experience across AI, product, customer delivery and your specialist domain without having to follow a traditional software engineering path.
Join at an exciting point in our growth. We’re investing heavily in AI and building the next generation of products for IP, R&D and Life Sciences professionals.
What You'll Be Doing:
Work directly with enterprise customers to understand their IP, R&D or Life Sciences workflows and translate pain points into practical AI solutions.
Configure and deploy AI Agent workflows, Skills, dashboards, reports and automations on PatSnap’s platform.
Build customer-facing demos and working prototypes using the customer’s own data and business context.
Run proof-of-concept projects end to end, including scoping, build, testing, feedback and iteration.
Bring the voice of the customer into PatSnap, turning customer insight into prioritised product feedback and reusable capabilities.
Develop playbooks and best practices for AI adoption across different scientific and technical domains.
Partner closely with Product, Engineering, Sales and Customer Success throughout customer engagements.
Own delivery quality, data compliance, and documentation throughout each engagement, partnering with Product, Engineering, Sales, and Customer Success.
Job requirements
What We'd Love From You:
Domain Knowledge (required)
Real subject-matter grounding in IP (patent search, analysis or landscaping, innovation management, IP strategy, IP data) and/or life sciences (biotech, pharma, drug development, pharma/healthcare data, translational research) — through work, research, or formal study
An undergraduate degree in a relevant field (e.g. life sciences, chemistry, engineering, or a science/technical discipline)
AI + Technical (the higher the better)
Hands-on experience with AI tools — LLM applications, prompt engineering, AI Agents, or workflow orchestration. Show us what you’ve built, at work or on your own
Comfort with no-code/low-code automation, data analysis, working with APIs, and light scripting (e.g. Python) is a strong plus. You should be able to build and debug a workflow independently, without waiting on engineering
You are not expected to write production software — but you are expected to be resourceful and technical enough to prototype fast
Delivery + Communication
1–4 years in a customer-facing role — implementation, solution delivery, consulting, pre-sales, product, or analysis — or a strong equivalent (e.g. domain research plus a track record of shipping practical AI projects)
Comfort with data migration, configuration, and end-user training is a real plus
Genuinely bilingual across domain and technology — you can hold your own with a patent lead or a scientist, and with an engineer
Speed and ownership: you’d rather ship, get feedback, and iterate than wait for perfect
Business-level English
Nice to Have
Both IP and life sciences exposure, rather than one
A product background — you’ve helped shape what gets built, not just used it
Prior use of PatSnap or comparable patent/IP or life sciences intelligence platforms
Experience turning messy customer requirements into repeatable, productised solutions
Benefits & Perks:
A culture we’re genuinely proud of. High-performing but low ego, collaborative, social and dynamic. It’s a team that supports each other, shares knowledge, raises standards and celebrates wins properly together. You’ll have plenty of ownership, work with smart people across the business and be encouraged to keep learning and experimenting. Alongside a great product, it’s one of the best parts of working here.
Additional benefits
25 days annual leave plus bank holidays
Two paid volunteering days
Private healthcare with AXA
Pension with Scottish Widows
Enhanced parental leave policies
Work from home stipend
Cycle to Work scheme
Life assurance
Payroll giving options
Eyecare vouchers
